Rock and a Hard Place: KM Metrics Panel and Rockband, Holiday Social

This location is shown only to members

Between a Rock and A Hard Place

Metrics: Hard but Necessary.

Defining good metrics is never easy. But sooner or later, for Knowledge Workers to thrive in any rational organization, tracking and evolving a set of metrics is nothing short of a necessity. After all, Knowledge Management is a means to an end. So what is the end - the organizational objective - that your stakeholders care about and how do you link your proposed KM actions as a means to help you get there?

Our panel - KWT regulars Pamela Kostur, Jennifer McNenly and Jed Cawthorne - will discuss how to justify KM into a project, initiative or a role. They’ll share their experience connecting activities to higher level objectives and the merits and perils of metrics.

In our inimical and lively style, Knowledge Workers will host a full-on discussion of what works and what doesn’t, and why you should be in, and driving the conversation in your organization.

As always, our talent is you.

Rock: We’ve something to celebrate.

Spanning 3 years, ~500 members, speakers from across North America, Europe and Australia and more than 30 presentations, it’s time to celebrate our community!

What better time than the holiday season. So, stay for a little longer than usual - indulge in a couple more drinks, meet new likeminded people, and, even take part in our band: That’s you too.

Band?  Well, okay. Call it Fancy Karaoke if you like. But it’s Rockband, to be precise: that’s game-supported singing, playing drums, and playing guitar. To know RockBand is to love it. Great tracks from many bands including the Beatles and Queen, there’s over 1500 bands and 3000+ songs available.

Come along - to Rock & A Hard Place.

I am sorry I won't be able to attend. Make sure Martin doesn't videotape you playing Rockband....unless you happen to be really good at it!

Hah. Well, RockBand is great - it doesn't play off notes played on the instruments. And some songs are so easy & fun that it really doesn't matter!

Great evening - thanks to all who attended and asked questions of the panel, and an even bigger thanks to Martin for bringing his Rock Band on tour !! Sadly it is now confirmed that not only am I tone deaf and unable sing a note, but I really can't play drums either........ :-(

It was great to be reminded that there is a world of strategy, key performance indicators and metrics out there. Thanks for a lively, well informed panel presentation, followed by some long overdue silliness! Much as I love to sing, though, it's probably not THE direction . . . !

Lots of food for thought from our panel discussion. I like hearing different perspectives on the same subject, and finding the common threads amongst them. McMaster is in KM infancy (maybe even pre-natal?), so discussions such as this are very informative. I now have lots of good issues to raise and questions to ask as we grow. Rockband was a blast. Many thanks to Martin for setting it all up.
